Between 31 December and 6 January, as part of our Xiqu Centre Pre-opening Gala week, we present a special series of free lunchtime and evening foyer talks as an informal introduction to the art of Cantonese opera.

Cantonese opera is a UNESCO-recognised heritage art with deep ties to Hong Kong’s history and culture. Like other regional variations of Chinese opera (xiqu), it is a total theatre practice that requires performers to master singing, acting, recital, martial arts and dance.

In these talks, experienced professional performers share their experience and insight on various aspects of the art form, including scriptwriting, costumes, vocal styles, and stage movements. Join us to find out more.
